Power electronics is the application of solid-state electronics to control the conversion of electric power. As the trend towards electrification and
renewable energies increases, enabling technologies such as power electronics are becoming ever more important.
Power electronic devices, also called as solid-state devices, have no mechanical movements and the losses in the power semiconductor devices are low.
In many electrical systems the energy loss occurs in the form of heating whereas the power electronics converters produce less heat and the cooling
requirements are less. Thus, the efficiency of power electronic systems is higher.
The solid-state devices are small in size and require less floor space. This reduces the complexity in the circuit and size reduction causes cost
reduction.
The availability of infrastructure systems strongly depends on reliable supply power, irrespective of whether these systems consists of servers and
cloud storage, critical traffic control or hospital services. Uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) ensure their continuous operation. In power modules,
flexible topologies equipped with the latest IGBT and the diode chips ensure the highest of conversion efficiencies for double conversion UPS systems.
